Scholarships and Fellowships

The Management Department sponsors scholarships and awards to support Business Administration majors, Management majors, Business Innovation & Entrepreneurship Minors, Social Entrepreneurship Minors, and Social Entrepreneurship Certificate students.  The scholarships range in value from $500 to $5,000.  Scholarships are available to students who will be enrolled at NIU during the 2017-2018 school year.

Students can apply for multiple scholarships by submitting a single application through Academic Works.  The deadline is January 31.

Gladys M. Bahr Memorial Fund Scholarships

This award is for undergraduate students pursuing the Business Administration major. Other criteria include academic achievement, leadership, and university and community service. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Dennis & Stacey Barsema Endowed Scholarships in Social Entrepreneurship

These scholarships are awarded to full-time junior or senior undergraduate students with a minimum GPA of 2.75 who are pursuing a minor or the Certificate of Undergraduate Study in Social Entrepreneurship. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Kevin Casebolt Scholarship

This award is for undergraduate students in the academic area of management with a GPA > 3.0. Other criteria include: career goals, service to department, college, university and community, extra-curricular activities, and academic performance. Apply through AcademicWorks >

 

Irving Business and Entrepreneurship Award

This award is for students with the class standing of junior or senior and in good academic standing who plan to pursue a career in business and entrepreneurship. Other criteria include: pursuing a Minor in Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship, financial need, and career plans. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Mike Jaroch Management Excellence Award

This award is for full-time students seeking a degree in management or business administration with a minimum GPA of 2.75.  Preference is for ambitious and entrepreneurial students with financial need who are pursuing the human resource management emphasis. Apply through AcademicWorks >

 

Management Alumni Scholarships

This scholarship is available for students with the class standing of Junior or Senior in the academic area of management. Criteria include academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and leadership potential. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Business Administration Alumni Scholarships

This scholarship is available for students with the class standing of Junior or Senior in the academic area of business administration. Criteria include academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and leadership potential. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Management Department Achievement Awards

 

These awards are in variable amounts for students with the class standing of Junior or Senior in the academic area of management. Other criteria include: academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, work experience, honors and awards, and communication skills. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Management Department Internship Funding

Current NIU students who have been selected for unpaid internships in the entrepreneurship or social entrepreneurship sectors can receive financial support through the following fellowships:

    • Dennis & Stacey Barsema Endowed Fellowship
    • Mike & Kristina McGrath Fellowship

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to entrepreneurship, academic achievement, financial need, and evidence that this award will support a high quality internship. Application should include:

    • Resume and cover letter which addresses selection criteria
    • myNIU Academic Requirements Report
    • Offer letter by the internship provider including term and conditions of employment

Students who receive fellowship funding will be required to make a presentation about their internship experience. Review of applications will be conducted on a rolling basis on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.

Bill Mathews Scholarship Award

Sara Obenchain Passion for Leadership Scholarship

This award is for undergraduate students in the area of management who have transferred to NIU from a community college, have a GPA > 3.0, and have a passion for leadership.  Other criteria include: career goals, collaborative skills, and involvement in the university community. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Mike O'Connor Scholarship

These awards are for students with the class standing of Junior or Senior in the academic area of management with a GPA > 3.0. Other criteria include: academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, work experience, financial need, and communication skills. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Nick and Olga Rakuc Memorial Scholarship in Management

This award is for undergraduate students in the academic area of management who are studying human resource management. Other criteria include: academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, communication skills, and who upon graduation will be a first generation college graduate. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Robert and Catherine Rothkopf Endowed Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in Business Administration or Management who demonstrates leadership potential. Carrie M. and John T. Travers Scholarship

This award is for undergraduate students in the academic areas of management or business administration.  Other criteria include: academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, service to department, college, university or community work experience, and communication skills. Apply through AcademicWorks >

Peter and Luann Walton Scholarships

Robert M. Youngmeyer Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides support for full- or part-time students studying management and environmental ethics.  Criteria include: academic achievement, coursework in environmental and business ethics, demonstrated interest and understanding of ethical issues in business and environmental ethics, and financial need. Apply through AcademicWorks >
