NIU Business freshman and Research Rookie Conducts Study to Combat Hunger
by Michelle De Jean, Director of Marketing Strategy for NIU Business.   NIU Research Rookie and business freshman Jenee Carlson collaborates with faculty mentor Dennis Barsema, the CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank and others to find solutions to address hunger among college students.  Campus hunger represents a growing problem at many universities around the country; currently no national study exists to break out the degree of the problem by institution.  Carlson’s food-needs survey is one of the first in the country targeted to students at a specific university campus.  Because of her efforts, Carlson was named a 2016 Newman Civic Fellow.  (2015-2016 Academic Year)

NIU Finance major achieves #1 ranking in the Worldwide Category of the Bloomberg Aptitude Test
by Michelle De Jean (marketing alumnus and MIS alumnus), Director of Marketing Strategy for NIU Business.  NIU finance senior Franz Varga achieves a personal best of #1 in the world in the Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT), a highly competitive, global challenge on business and finance.  Students from more than 3,500 universities around the world sit for the BAT.  Varga’s best in the world performance places him above students from MIT, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the London School of Economics, and the National University of Singapore, among many other academic institutions in the states and around the globe.
