Pam Smith BELIEF Scholarship: An Endowment for Ethical Leadership

We invite you to apply for the Pam Smith BELIEF Scholarship, which provides financial assistance to students interested and engaged in ethical leadership in the College of Business.

Pam Smith has been a faculty member in the Department of Accountancy since 1994. Her husband, Jon Mayer, is a systems engineer for Exelon Corporation. Pam and Jon believe that strong moral convictions pave the way to success. They are active volunteers in the community and want to support students who exhibit ethical leadership in their daily lives. Pam was involved in the creation and development of the Building Ethical Leaders Using an Integrated Ethics Framework (BELIEF) Program, and Jon wanted to honor her dedication to student development through this scholarship.

Jon holds two NIU degrees. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 2003 and completed the Executive MBA program in 2009. While in the MBA program, he saw firsthand, from a student’s perspective, Pam’s passion for helping students identify ethical dilemmas and think through the impact of seemingly inconsequential decisions. They both believe in always doing your best, doing the right thing and treating others with kindness.
